Shoemaker’s Café, Towanda, Illinois

At 10:00 Connie makes new coffee,
as her older sister did.
They came yesterday, they come today.
They come in and have their say—
Chicago markets, statehouse chicanery, high school scores, Steve’s ’47 Deere—
talking the straight talk of their fathers,
but now in a tobacco-free environment.
